Florence Weisz, Inked Growth-Purple

Over the last ten years, I have been fascinated by the aesthetic potential of STRIPES. My collage materials include details from my photographs of individuals wearing striped clothing. I select sections of the striped images to print out on various substrates. I am intrigued by how stripes, which are simply rigid patterns of parallel lines, can appear organic and undulating. While exploring the versatility of stripes, my art has evolved from flat collages into three dimensional works and finally into immersive, room sized site-specific installations.

Florence Weisz has been a professional collage artist for over four decades. After earning a degree in Fine Art from Douglass College, Rutgers University, she has lived, studied and created art in NYC, New Jersey, Paris, Jerusalem and now in Philadelphia.

Florence is a juried member of CFEVA, Da Vinci Art Alliance, InLiquid, ARTsisters, Tri-State Artists Equity, MCGOPA, and MLAC. In the last two years, since the art world came out of Covid seclusion, her work was included in over 40 juried and invitational group shows in the North East. She was awarded a place in the Kite Prize for Contemporary Art Virtual Merit Exhibition and is a recipient of a NJ State Council Fine Arts Fellowship Award.

She has exhibited her art in over 30 solo shows, including the Newark Museum, Jersey City Museum, and The Delaware Contemporary, where her STRIPES ESCAPE site specific installation was on view for four months through December 2023. Her artworks are in the collections of The NJ State Museum, IBM, Port of Authority of NY and NJ, Citibank, PSE&G, Centocor, Schering Plough, Merck, E.I. du Pont and University of Pennsylvania Hospital, among others.
