My art practice comes from my curiosity and desire to understand the world. Research and pattern observation, much like a treasure hunt, is foundational to my approach to my art.

The resulting artworks aim to illuminate what was hidden, which is my interpretation of the show’s theme, “At the Edge of Light and Darkness”.

It is my hope that by sharing these illuminations, others may be inspired to see the world in a different way.

My personal motto: “Seek, Discover and Share your findings”

For over the last 20 years, Hayato Matsushita’s main interest has been esoteric symbolism and Masonic iconography in American culture starting from the founding of the United States of America.

Through Matsushita’s research and discoveries, he has created artworks that decode esoteric knowledge to illuminate the hidden meanings in American symbolism.

Hayato Matsushita is an American artist born in Japan. He moved to the United States when he was 10 years old. He has been making art since he was a kindergartener and went on to study sculpture and conceptual art at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City.

He has had 3 solo shows at Christopher Henry Gallery in New York City and has participated in various group shows.

Since year 2018, he has been documenting his life’s work from his childhood to present in chronological order on Instagram. (Instagram @hayatomatsushita)
