As an artist, I am interested in exploring three features while I work. One is the interaction of the imagination with mundane objects. A second is art historical paintings and what and how they extend to present day paintings. The third is the picture plane itself.

I begin with collecting pictures from newspaper clippings or found photographs. The subjects in the pictures are usually children or families, the actions themselves are ordinary. I paint preliminary figures on wallboard. While painting, ideas come to me relating to a narrative and to art historical artworks. I keep notes to assist me in developing my painting on windows.

The painting on windows began as a response to thinking about the picture plane. Windows allow me to literally paint on and behind the picture plane. I can combine the figure in an environment in reverse painting then add more painting and collage elements to complete the story. The window’s sash is a perfect frame and is used to extend the image.
