Syd Carpenter, 2017 Fellow

 

Syd Carpenter received her MFA in 1976 at the Tyler School of Art. Her permanent collections reside in the Renwick Gallery Smithsonian Institute.  They can also be viewed in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the James A. Michener Museum of Art, the Jengdezhen Ceramic Institute in China as well as numerous public and private collections.  Syd is also a recipient Pew Fellowship in the Arts, the National Endowment for the arts, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the Leeway Fellowships in the Arts. 

 

 She was a guest artist at the Haystack Mountain School, Penland School, Anderson Ranch, Chicago Art Institute, Dickenson College, Hollins University, Howard University, Millersville University, University of Delaware and other academic institutions and art centers.  Currently, she is a professor of the Studio Art, Swarthmore College.  Her more recent exhibitions are Solo Exhibition, African American Museum of Philadelphia titled More Places of Our Own, Creative Hand, Discerning Herar James A Michener Museum, Faces of Politics, Fuller Museum and Boston and Mass.
