Murphy, Daniel Traub and Benjamin Volta

October 20 - November 12, 2010

Artist Talks and Reception: Thursday, October 28th 5 - 7pm. Daniel Traub’s current photographs in Philadelphia explore marginal regions that hover between decay and regeneration. Brenna K. Murphy’s work explores the possibility that the body can be a surrogate home for those that don't have one as is traditionally defined in our culture, while also acknowledging the temporality of both the body and our collective cultural notion of what ‘Home’ means. Benjamin Volta presents large wallpaper prints created with the city of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, Mural Corps, and an interactive sculpture modeled after the House of Cards, by Charles and Raye Eames. Volta’s work will be accompanied by an essay by Jack Hinton, Assistant Curator of European Decorative Arts and Sculpture at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Career Development Program

Exhibitions : "The Imagined" Featuring Career Development Program Fellows Gregory Brellochs, Danielle Bursk and Brooke Hine

November 18 - December 17, 2010

Artist Talks and Reception: Thursday, December 2nd 5-7pm. Through his large format graphite drawings Gregory Brellochs explores physical, sensual, and visceral worlds of the imagination. Brellochs’ images are intended to act as catalysts for contemplation while evoking a poetic fascination for the inner workings of nature and the mind. Danielle Bursk’s drawings use the action of mark making to create abstract forms that are suggestive of imagined objects and landscapes. Dichotomies of form, line and concept push boundaries in Bursk’s work while remaining self-contained. Resembling many different forms found in nature, Brooke Hine’s installations and sculptures are inspired by found objects in a state of decay. Delving into an imagined history, Hine finds the tactile nature of clay to be ideal for her subject matter and the spontaneous working method, allowing the material to guide the organic nature of each form.

Career Development Program
