Nari Kim is a ceramic sculptor based out of Philadelphia. Originally from Seoul Korea, she grew up with a passion for all art forms and formally trained in ceramic arts culminating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ewha Womans University. She continued her studies in the U.S. at SUNY New Paltz where she earned her Masters of Fine Arts. Nari draws inspiration for her art from the daily joys and challenges she faces with her dear husband and two sons. She is currently practicing her craft at Black Hound Clay Studio. She has exhibited her work in various venues in Philadelphia and most recently was a gallery artist at 3rd Street Gallery.

Artist's Statement:

I developed a philosophy to create works that exhibited an eerie beauty that would capture the audience's eye and imagination. With my work, I hope to draw the viewer in with an initial impression that may not meet the traditional views of beauty but will intrigue them so much that they are able to challenge those views. More recently, I have been drawing inspiration from traditional Korean paintings and objects. Having grown up immersed with and learning about these expressions of my culture, I now find myself wanting to reflect those bold colors and complex surfaces with my pieces but in a modern interpretation.
